HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY LINEN?
Over the years we have received so many questions asking us what are the best methods to keeping your linen clean and long lasting. So with this in mind, we created a little guide for your convenience!
Below is information on our favourite detergent, Kin Kin Naturals. We have long supported this amazing local Noosa brand who are doing great things for an industry that is full of harmful chemicals. Not only will your garments smell AMAZING but you can rest assure that each item is being thoroughly cleaned and protecting mother earth at the same time.
We have also outlined some key tips on washing, drying and dealing with those pesky wrinkles...if you are so inclined. Our office is split on this debatable topic with half of us loving the crisp ironed look and the other half loving the relaxed just off the beach feel. The choice is yours!
1. WHAT KIND OF DETERGENT SHOULD I USE?
Choosing the right detergent is one of the most important aspects of extending the life of your linen! Our favourite is Noosa brand, Kin Kin Naturals. It is an all natural concentrated detergent created to keep our people & planet healthy.
Safe for septic tanks and grey water systems, it can also be used for front and top loading washing machines. You should achieve 30 washes out of one bottle when you use 35ml of detergent. 2. HOW DO YOU WASH LINEN?
Linen can be washed two ways; by hand or in the washing machine. We recommend washing your linen in cold water to prevent any shrinkage or fading.
Avoid using fabric softener & bleach even if you are washing all those favorite whites! With linen fibers being so delicate, set the machine on gentle or delicate cycle. We also love washing our linen in a delicate bag!
Do not wash with heavy items such as denims. Avoid wringing or twisting the fabric where the fibers can be pulled in any unnatural direction. Styles that have a more open weave hand washing is advised as the best method.
3. WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD TO DRY LINEN?
One of the best qualities of linen is that it's fast drying! With a tendency to shrink, we recommend air drying by laying it flat on a towel or on a drying rack.
Avoid hangers or clothes pins which can leave dents, marks and even holes. If you decided to use your dryer, use a low or no heat setting. Being a quick drying fabric, linen is ideal for travelling or on the go lifestyles!
4. HOW DO YOU REMOVE WRINKLES IN YOUR LINEN CLOTHES?
The biggest topic of debate for all linen lovers! You will either be a person who loves your linen crisp or doesn't mind it looking wrinkled and relaxed. Either way it looks amazing in our eyes!
If you decided to iron your linen, make sure the setting is on 'Linen' or 'Delicate'. We recommend ironing the inside of the item to avoid shiny or faded patches. Another option is to steam your garment. It's a quick and simple way to have all those wrinkles drop.
